An extremely cold but dry Saturday morning in Rotherham was the setting for the South Yorkshire cross country championship. We had two competitors, Joseph Rose and Luke Naylor. Conditions were perfect for cross country running but the course was an extremely difficult one. A circular route of about 2000 metres, long straights and steep hills made the 4000 metres that Joseph ran and the 6000 metres that Luke ran extremely difficult and challenging. Joseph finished a very creditable 15th in his age group
, made all the more pleasing as he was running against students a year older than himself. Luke finished a very hard race only a few seconds behind the winner and subsequently has been selected to run in the National Schools cross country championship in Manchester on the 20th March 2010.
Well done to both boys for a fantastic effort and good luck for Luke from everyone at WHS for the championships in March.
